About us

Cambscuisine is determined to delight our guests, to have a ‘can’t do enough to please’ attitude and to deliver on every visit. Our vision is ‘to build an outstanding, progressive company with the infrastructure to deliver continuous local business growth through its people’. Oliver Thain, one of the two original founders and who remains at the heart of the operation, grew up in Cambridgeshire and lives locally.

We are an award winning business with eight unique Pubs and Restaurants. We have grown steadily since the purchase of The Cock at Hemingford Grey in 2001. We have five classic country pubs, and three restaurants in Cambridge, The Cambridge Chop House, Millworks and most recently The Astronomer. The Cock has won National Dining Pub of the Year on two occasions.

However, we are so much more than just an award winning Pub and Restaurant business. Our values and culture contribute to strong career development, strong support for local community and a network of local suppliers. We serve local beers and our food, is freshly prepared by our wonderful chefs. Our own Community fund raises considerable sums every year to support charities in the Cambridgeshire area. We have a sharp focus on sustainability with many in-house initiatives including an embryonic scheme to support our parish councils reshape their green areas.

Discover our pubs

We are eight venues in total of which five are classic country pubs, two are restaurants in the centre of Cambridge, The Cambridge Chop House and Millworks, and The Astronomer a restaurant in Eddington on the outskirts.

The Cock has won National Dining Pub of the Year on two occasions and we have won multiple awards across all venues. All of our venues are listed, have much character and are cared for and maintained to a very high standard.

Our food is sustainable and cooked fresh

We are a local business with eight establishments within a 10 mile radius. Our menus across the venues are therefore quite different. All of our food is cooked to order by our teams of chefs, is locally sourced where possible and has a high level of provenance.

There are significant cost pressures on employing chefs. Providing high quality, interesting food comes at a price but we will always deliver food to your table made fresh and with a high level of skill. This is what we love to do.

Ethos

Our eight venues are close, all in Cambridgeshire and so we use local suppliers and are fully integrated into the local economy and community, As such we can do a huge amount to reduce our carbon footprint compared to many in our sector. We raise c.£75,000 a year for local charities mainly working with socially disadvantaged groups and people. We work hard with our teams to create a culture of tolerance, honesty and fun.
